Yx. Yan et al., Hydromechanics for the formation and development of radial sandbanks (II) - Vertical characteristics of tidal flow, SCI CHINA D, 42(1), 1999, pp. 22-29
In order to study the tidal current ridges, a three-dimensional numerical m
odel is, for the first lime, applied to studying the hydrodynamic circumsta
nce with Houbolt's spiral assumption in the radial sandbank area. It succes
sfully reveals that the radial sandbanks are molded by to-and-fro tidal cur
rent as well as the subtransverse circulation current, and that both contri
bute to maintaining the interior dynamic balance of the sandbanks. It is al
so found that the subtransverse circulation current would not always appear
in pair within the ridges. These discoveries enrich the theoretical result
s in hydrodynamics of tidal current ridges.
