The construction and the general performance of a diethylenetriamine pentaa
cetic acid (DTPA) ion-selective polyvinyl chloride (PVC) membrane electrode
based on tricaprylylmethylammonium chloride (Aliquat 336S) were described.
The electrode exhibited a rapid and near-Nernstian response (53.0 my decad
e(-1)) to DTPA concentration ranging from 1 x 10(-2) to 1 x 10(-5) mol dm(-
3) within pH 3-7. Interfering effects of some other ions were reported. The
electrode was applied for the direct assay of DTPA by means of the calibra
tion technique. The method had the advantages of simplicity and speed.
