Abstract
We present here results of our study of the 5 m Long AC transmission line m odel with 1 kA current capability at 77 K. Primary attention was paid to th e current characteristics and AC losses in individual tapes and in the core of the cable. Problems of tape transposition are considered. Our study was undertaken in several stages. At the beginning, we investigated current ca pability and AC losses in individual Bi-2223/Ag tapes. The goal was to dete rmine how many tapes were needed to construct a 5 m long transmission line model with a current capability of approximate to 1 kA; we then evaluated t otal AC losses in the model. Subsequently, we designed a current core for t he power cable and a cryogenic envelope to test the cable's performance.
