Abstract
EDTA in wastewater from pulp and paper mills was biodegraded by activated s ludge maintained under mildly alkaline conditions. Relative to treatment pl ants operating under acidic or neutral conditions, the alkaline system did not interfere with the biodegradation of other organic compounds. The resul ts of laboratory-scale experiments were confirmed in two full-scale activat ed sludge plants.
