Solubilities of selected commercially available surfactants in supercritical carbon dioxide and ethane - determination, correlation, comparison

This paper deals with the experimental determination of the solubilities of 8 commercially available surfactants in supercritical carbon dioxide, and the solubilities of a subquantity of 6 surfactants in supercritical ethane in the temperature range of 50-100 degrees C and a pressure range of 100 to 500 bar The static-analytical method was chosen using an autoclave system combined with potentiometric titration or HPLC equipped with UV and tight s cattering detection. A correlative description of the experimental data wit h different methods is given, aiming at the calculation under non-investiga ted state conditions and the assessment of surfactants which have not been studied. Finally; the possibilities to predict the soubilities of surfactan ts and the use of such surfactant-modified supercritical solvents are discu ssed.
