A wide variety of remote sensing experiments utilize IR absorption spe
ctroscopy to deduce parameters of interest. Inversion of the data is o
ften accomplished by comparing the observed spectrum with a synthetic
one. Of course the accuracy of the inversion strongly depends on the a
ccuracy of various molecular parameters: frequencies, intensities and
collisional lineshapes. This paper reviews some recent studies develop
ed in various French laboratories and is devoted to cases in which imp
ortant deviations from the usual Lorentzian profile have been observed
by Fourier Transform spectrometry.
