A. Barbacki et M. Kawalec, STRUCTURAL ALTERATIONS IN THE SURFACE-LAYER DURING HARD MACHINING, Journal of materials processing technology, 64(1-3), 1997, pp. 33-39
The changes induced by machining of hard steels in their surface layer
have been investigated. Attention has been given to the microstructur
e and mesohardness of very thin (a few micrometers) surface layers of
the quenched and tempered alloy steels. It has been found that both th
e kind of cutting tool and its wear rate highly influences the workpie
ce surface layer. The chemical composition of the work material is als
o an essential factor.
