Ams. Hamouda et Msj. Hashmi, HIGH-SPEED IMPACT OF ELASTIC-PLASTIC WORK-HARDENING MATERIAL INTO A RIGID BOUNDARY, Journal of materials processing technology, 64(1-3), 1997, pp. 189-197
This paper described the case of impacting a cylindrical projectile of
elastic-plastic work hardening material into a rigid boundary. A cyli
ndrical impact test was performed, the basic technique involved firing
a cylindrical projectile of copper material into a rigid anvil bar at
speed ranging 50 to 250 m/s. Computer code based on finite difference
numerical technique was developed to simulate the impact problem. Thi
s code has the ability to predicate both the instantaneous profile and
stress-strain distribution in the projectile following the impact wit
h the rigid boundary. To demonstrate the capability of the developed c
ode, comparisons are made between the developed code and experimental
results in terms of the final shape of the deformed test specimen.
