V. Bansal et al., CHARACTERIZATION OF NITROGEN AND PHOSPHORUS COMPONENTS IN A MULTIFUNCTIONAL LUBRICANT ADDITIVE BY NMR AND IR TECHNIQUES, Lubrication engineering, 53(4), 1997, pp. 17-23
This paper highlights the application of P-31, H-1, C-13-NMR and FT-IR
techniques for the compositional analysis of a commercial nitrogen an
d phosphorus-containing ashless multifunctional additive. The assignme
nt of signals in the P-31, H-1, C-13-NMR and IR spectra of the sample
facilitated the identification of different phosphorus-containing spec
ies, i.e., trialkyl phosphate, alkyl amine salt of mono/dialkyl phosph
oric acid and polyalkyl phosphate. The alkyl group in all the phosphor
ous-containing components has been found to be 2-ethyl hexyl by the C-
13-NMR spectral analysis. Further, these components have been separate
d by column chromatography and their chemical structures have been con
firmed by the above spectroscopic techniques.
