Abstract
On treatment with (BuLi)-Li-t in the presence of HMPA, N-benzylbenzamides u ndergo anionic cyclisation with dearomatisation to give an extended amide e nolate which reacts with electrophiles to yield bicyclic cyclohexadiene der ivatives.
