A numerical analysis of the evolution of momentumless turbulent wakes in a
linearly stratified fluid has been carried out by using a hierarchy of semi
-empirical turbulence models of second order. The computational results are
compared with known experimental data. Simplified models of a far turbulen
t wake and the internal waves generated by its collapse are constructed. (C
