Abstract
Cross over corrected magnetic data over the Bay of Bengal from different ag encies are collated with a view to isolating short and long wavelength anom alies. The data from this region are upward continued to altitudes of 10, 1 00 and 400 km, The continued data at 10 km altitude can throw light on the basement characteristics of this region. The higher attitude (100, 400 km) anomalies may indicate the effect of lower crustal rocks. The response of 8 5 degrees E ridge is clear and its spatial extent is better defined at 10 k m level, The long wavelength features, in general, have a negative bias. 40 0 km level anomaly map gives finer details of the 85 degrees E ridge compar ed to what was obtained earlier from MAGSAT measurements. The difference in amplitudes in MAGSAT and the continued data may be due to errors in estima ting the reference level for MAGSAT observations.
