Abstract
Multilevel coding and bit-interleaved coded modulation employing differenti al encoding and non-coherent reception over flat fading channels are assess ed. To achieve high bandwidth efliciencies mixed amplitude/phase modulation is performed. It is shown that multiple symbol detection only provides gai ns for multilevel coding as Gray labelling of the differential symbols is n ot possible.
