Because it is conducive to progress, work has become a central value i
n today's society. Assuming that this relation between work and develo
pment will persist, the author argues for a right to work to be writte
n into labour law. This calls for redefining the objectives of labour
law to satisfy two requirements within the framework of a new social c
ontract: the first is continuous adjustment of both people and organiz
ations, and the second, people's economic security.
