The ability of microscopic fungi to produce nitrous oxide under low partial
pressure of oxygen and the presence of nitrites and nitrates in a medium w
as studied. The activity of this process was determined for different speci
es of micromycetes that are typical for soil as a whole and for the root zo
ne in particular. The possibility of nitrous oxide reduction by micromycete
s during the incubation of mycelium in a nitrogen-free medium and in the at
mosphere with nitrous oxide was determined.
