Te. Samatadze et al., Comparison of C-banded chromosomes in karyotypes of three species of the genus Matricaria L., GENETIKA, 34(12), 1998, pp. 1720-1724
Comparison of C-banded chromosomes were studied in karyotypes of two relate
d wild species. Matricaria maritima L. (2n = 2x = 18) and M. inodora L. (2n
= 4x = 36), and compared with that of cultivated M. chamomilla L. All nine
pairs of homologous chromosomes were identified in their genomes on the ba
sis of chromosome morphology and C-banding patterns. Similarity of the C-ba
nding patterns of diploid M. maritima and tetraploid M. inodora chromosomes
and a law level of intra- and interspecific C-banding polymorphism was dis
covered. Two similar subgenomes were revealed in the karyotype of a tetrapl
oid M. inodora L,, which indicates its autopolypioid origin. Differentiatio
n of subgenomes was detected in this species. We suggested that the chromos
omes of tetraploid and diploid species belong to the same genome. Compariso
n of karyotypes of two wild species with the M-ch genome chromosomes of Mat
ricaria chamomilla L., which was studied by us earlier, allowed us to concl
ude that their genomes are not identical. Genome that is common for M. mari
tima L. and M. inodora L. was designated M-m.
