Thermolysis of Ru-3(mu(3)-C=C=CPh2) (mu-dppm) (mu-CO) (CO)(7) affords seque
ntially Ru-3 (mu(3)-PPhCH2PPh2) (mu(3)-C9H5Ph2) (CO)(n) (n=6 (3), 5 (4)) by
trapping of the Ph group ( from P-C bond cleavage in the dppm ligand) by t
he allenylidene and cyclisation to a 1,3-diarylindenyl ligand, which is att
ached to the cluster in 3 via one of the Ar groups and in 4 by the eta(2):e
ta(2):eta(5)-indenyl group; similar experiments with the di-4-tolylallenyli
dene provide information concerning the course of these reactions. (C) 1999
