Abstract
The paramagnetic dirhenium(II,III) complex [1,3,6,8-Re2Cl4(PMe3)(4)]Cl (1) was found to be a kinetic product in the reaction of [Re2Cl8](2-) with an e xcess of PMe3 in refluxing propanol. The one-electron reduction of 1 is the last, rate-determining step in the overall reaction to give the final, the rmodynamic dirhenium(II,II) product, 1,3,6,8-Re2Cl4(PMe3)(4).
