The growth rate and the limiting stage of growth are determined for PbS cry
stals prepared by the sublimation-condensation process in a closed system.
The process is satisfactorily described by a one-component model. The growt
h rate is limited by mass transport in the vapor phase. The coefficient of
PbS diffusion in argon under standard conditions is D-0 = 0.076 +/- 0.03 cm
(2)/s. The kinetic data are correlated with the morphological features of t
he grown crystals.
