The ionic conductivity of multicomponent fluoride glasses in the PbF2-InF3-
BaF2-AlF3-LiF system was measured. Increasing the PbF2 content or decreasin
g the AlF3 content of the glass raises conductivity and reduces the activat
ion energy of conductivity. The glasses with the compositions 50 mol % PbF2
+ 20 mol % InF3 + 10 mol % BaF2 + 10 mol % AlF3 + 10 mol % LiF and 45 mol
% PbF2 + 40 mol % InF3 + 15 mol % BaF2 feature an ionic conductivity of 6 x
10(-5) S/cm at 400 K, which is 10 to 20 times higher than the conductivity
of the known fluoride glasses.
