Abstract
The semiclassical method of Alder-Winther-de Beer is generalized to in clude the nuclear potential, both in the description of the relative m otion of the projectile-target system and in the amplitudes for exciti ng collective states. We find a reasonable agreement between our resul ts and exact quantum-mechanical coupled-channels calculations for the case of inelastic excitation of rotational levels. This approach can b e easily generalized to the case of transfer reactions.
