The phospholipids from three control and two glyphosate-tolerant soybean cu
ltivars were isolated by extraction of soy flakes with hexane and character
ized after separation by high-pressure liquid chromatography. In addition,
several lots of commercial fluid lecithin were analyzed and the results wer
e compared to values published in the literature. Phosphatidylcholine, phos
phatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylinositol, and phosphatidic acid were iden
tified as major components in these cultivars and in the commercial lecithi
n samples. The results showed that glyphosate-tolerant soybeans yield lecit
hin comparable and equivalent to conventional soybean cultivars.
