A reexamination of the pleoanamorphic fungus, Wangiella dermatitidis, type
species of Wangiella, has demonstrated the formation of phialides with dist
inct collarettes, annellides, acropetally produced chains of conidia and sc
lerotial bodies, in addition to those already ascribed, viz., phialides wit
hout collarettes and yeastlike cells, The gellus is emended to accommodate
all anamorphic states. A reexamination of type and authenticated material o
f Phialophora heteromorpha (Syn. Trichosporium heteromorphum), based on mor
phological characters has revealed close relationship to W. dermatitidis Ph
ialophora heteromorpha is reassigned to the genus Wangiella, as W. heteromo
rpha. A redescription of the fungus is made.
