Because of recent rapid growth of the Internet and Intranets, IP traffic wh
ich runs over LANs and WANs has been increasing explosively. Furthermore, a
ll the traffic including voice which is transmitted in the LAN and WAN netw
ork is becoming IP encapsulated packets and at the same time, demand for ne
twork bandwidth and port bandwidth is expanding. In that environment, the r
equirement for IP routers which can accommodate many high-speed ports and h
ave high IP forwarding performance is increasing. In order to meet those de
mands, we have developed a high-performance and wide-bandwidth IP router ca
lled D7000, which provides 50 Gbps class bandwidth (3.3 Gbps bandwidth/slot
x 15 slots) and provides an over 30 million IP forwarding rate per second.
