Abstract
Data on the distribution of the intensities of two-quantum cascades followi ng thermal-neutron capture have been analyzed for 30 nuclei from Cd-114 to Hg-200. It has been established that the observed shape of the distribution characterizing the deviation of these intensities from the relevant mean v alue can be explained only under the assumption that, at least at excitatio n energies below 3 to 4 MeV, the density of nuclear levels excited in (n, g amma) reactions cannot be fitted to an exponential form.
