The conditions for reducing FeO42- to prepare Fe(III) hydroxide in alkaline
solutions were investigated. The behavior of Pu(VI,V) during precipitation
of iron hydroxide from ammonia and alkaline solutions (from pH 9 to 8 M OH
-) was studied by radiometry. Plutonium is coprecipitated with high separat
ion coefficients at [OH-] less than or equal to 0.4 in the presence of sulf
ite ions and at [OH-] greater than or equal to 0.5 M in the presence of hyd
razine.
