Vv. Nikonenko et al., Unbalance of fluxes of salt ions and ions products of water dissociation through ion-exchange membranes during electrodialysis, RUSS J ELEC, 35(1), 1999, pp. 52-58
Transport of salt ions and water dissociation products through ion-exchange
membranes is studied during electrodialysis of a 0.002 M NaCl solution. Ch
annels with a separator; channels with a filler, prepared from a monolayer
of ionites; and channels without a filler are studied while maintaining a c
onstant concentration and pH value of solution at the point of entry into t
he desalination channel under study. It is found that effective transferenc
e numbers for the H+ and OH- ions, respectively, through the cation-exchang
e and anion-exchange membranes tend to level and grow with the increasing l
ength of the desalination channel and with the decreasing average linear ve
locity of the solution flow. The reasons for this phenomenon are considered
