Three cases of Plummer-Vinson syndrome in girls aged 11 to 15 years are rep
orted. All three patients presented with proximal dysphagia and chronic ane
mia. The exact role of iron deficiency in Plummer-Vinson syndrome remains u
nclear. The diagnosis rests on demonstration of an esophageal web by opacif
ication or endoscopic evaluation of the esophagus, The dysphagia and the es
ophageal constriction resolve after iron store replenishment, Plummer-Vinso
n syndrome is associated with a high risk of esophageal cancer.
