A thermodynamic analysis of oxygen solution in Fe-Ni melts containing
manganese is given. As Ni content in the melt increases. deoxidizing c
apacity of manganese rises. Oxygen solubility curves in Fe-Ni melts pa
ss the minimum value which is shifted towards the-lower Mn concentrati
on side as Ni content in the melt increases. The calculation of the ox
ide phase composition in Mn deoxidation showed that as Ni and Mn conte
nt in the melts increases the mole fraction of manganese oxide grows n
earing one with pure nickel. The findings of the thermodynamic analysi
s are in good agreement with the available experimental darn.
