Experimental data are used for determining the parameters of a film of
liquid metal and drop at the electrode up in electroslag remelting of
nickel and chromium bronze. In these cases film thickness was 0.8-1.2
and 1.6-1.8 mm. respectively, film overheating above liquidus 8-18 an
d 3-4 degrees C: drop diameter 4.0-4.5 and 3.9-4.1 mm; time of drop tr
avel in slag 0.2-0.3 s: total overheating of drop 60-70 and 45-50 degr
ees C. The possibility is shown of obtaining estimates of dropwise tra
nsfer characteristics on the basis of thermal and physical properties
of the remelted metal without using the properties of slags. Multipurp
ose, empirical formulas are given suitable ibr calculating the film an
d drop parameters under optimum conditions of electroslag remelting.
