Relationships between variables which characterize religious experiencing (
coping styles and religious orientation) and the Big Five personality facto
rs were studied. 450 subjects - adolescents, mean age 16.8 yrs. participate
d in the research project. The study found that in boys the religious copin
g style of deferring correlates significantly negatively with the factor Op
enness. In girls, the factor Openness correlates positively with the collab
orative style. The results indicate that religious experiencing can also be
influenced by the individual's personality structure.
