A 5-month-old, intact female, domestic short-haired cat was presented for e
valuation of abdominal distension. Abdominal radiographs revealed a midabdo
minal mass that contained multiple, irregular, mineralized opacities. The m
ass was surgically removed, and an ovariohysterectomy performed. The mass w
as located at the tip of the left uterine horn and was covered partially by
haired skin. Histologically, the mass was diagnosed as a mature ovarian te
ratoma based on the presence of well-differentiated somatic structures deri
ved from three primary embryonal germ-cell layers. Germ-cell tumor classifi
cation and feline ovarian teratomas are reviewed.
