Abstract
The author presents an outline: of the future energy policy of the People's Republic of China. Nuclear power will become more important on the medium and long term. Its current share in electricity production is around 13%. A t the present time, China is advancing the development of a national type o f reactor, Qinshan NPP; four plants are under construction. So far, Russia has supplied the entire equipment, except for the instrumentation and contr ol system, for the Lianyungang plant in the northern part of the Jiangsu pr ovince. In the future, new reactors are to be designed, developed, built an d operated in the country. However, the People's Republic continues to rely on a mix of fossil fired and nuclear power plants. Hydroelectric plants as well as the existing transmission line system are to be expanded.
