Vs. Pires et al., SAPONINS FROM ILEX DUMOSA, AN ERVA-MATE (ILEX PARAGUARIENSIS) ADULTERATING PLANT, Journal of agricultural and food chemistry, 45(4), 1997, pp. 1027-1031
Extraction of Ilex dumosa leaves, a material frequently used for the a
dulteration of erva-mate, resulted in the isolation of a-D-glucuronopy
ranosyl-28-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl- 3 beta-hydroxyolean-12-en-28-oic a
cid, -O-beta-D-6-O-methylglucuronpyranosyl-28-O-beta-D- glucopyranosyl
-3 beta-hydroxyolean-12-en-28-oic acid, and three new saponins: a-D-ga
lactopyranosyl]-28-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-3 beta,29-dihydroxyolean-12
-en-28-oic acid, a-L-arabinopyranoysl]-28-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-3 be
ta-hydroxyolean-12-en-28-oic acid, eta-D-galactopyranosyl-28-O-beta-D-
glucopyranoysl- ta-D-galactopyranoysl-28-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-3 bet
a-hydroxyolean-12-en-28-oic acid. None of these saponins are present i
n the leaves of Ilex paraguariensis (genuine erva-mate).
