Abstract
The role of the base in RuCl2(PPh3)(3)-catalyzed hydrogen transfer reaction s is to generate a highly active RuH2(PPh3)(3) catalyst from the dichloride via two consecutive alkoxide displacement-beta-elimination sequences.
