(+)-Fusicocca-2,10(14)-diene, isolated recently by the authors, is most lik ely a genuine hydrocarbon intermediate in the biosynthesis of fusicoccin, a s its 8 beta-hydroxy derivative is smoothly and efficiently converted into fusicoccin J by the fusicoccin-producing fungus, Phomopsis (Fusicoccum) amy gdali F6.
