This study investigated the demographic characteristics of non-kin foster p
arents, the quality of their family functioning, their experiences with ser
vice systems, the sources of support they used, and other factors related t
o providing foster care. Differences by race, African-American and Caucasia
n, were explored for all variables. More similarities than differences were
found. The results were compared to what is known from other studies and d
escriptions of African-American families in general. Practice implications
are suggested.
