Abstract
A new biflavanone (1) named (+)-GB-1b was isolated together with five known biflavonoids from the stems of Garcinia kola Heckel (Guttiferae) collected in Nigeria. The structure was characterized by analyses of the spectral da ta. The stereostructures of (-)-GB-1a, (+)-GB-1b and (-)-GB-2a are also dis cussed on the basis of chemical and spectroscopic evidence. Furthermore, 3, 8 "-biflavanones were successfully converted to 3,6 "-biflavanone under the rmal conditions.
