Abstract
Reaction of [IrCl(CO)(PMe3)(2)] with [NEt4][nido-B9H12] gives the ten-verte x eight-boron cluster species [(PMe3)(4)(CO)(2)Ir2B8H8]. This formally has a close cluster electron count compatible with its close structure. By cont rast, ten-vertex eight-baron [(PMe2Ph)(4)Pd2B8H10], isolated from [4-(NH2Ph )-arachno-B9H13] and [PdCl2(PMe2Ph)(2)], has a closo electron count but an arachno structure.
