A method developed for studying the boiling of a liquid in a large volume i
s based on recording changes in the intensity of a laser beam propagating i
n the direction normal to a horizontally positioned cylinder. The method wa
s tested in experiments with boiling water. The diameters with which bubble
s are separated from the heat-releasing surface, the detachment frequency,
and the surfacing velocity were evaluated and found to be in conformity wit
h the known data. An advantage of this method is the possibility to promptl
y measure a large set of boiling characteristics with a sufficiently high a
ccuracy and reliability of measurements.
