Abstract
An experimental study of surface wave propagation in a low-pressure collisi onal plasma column generated by the wave itself is presented. It is experim entally demonstrated that the maximum wave number value attainable decrease s with increasing collisional effects. The separate effects of collisions a nd radial plasma inhomogeneity on the wave propagation are investigated. So me practical considerations concerning the correct measurement of the phase and attenuation diagrams are pointed out. (C) 1999 American Institute of P hysics. [S0021-8979(99)01605-9].
