S. Kabana et al., Centrality dependence of pi(+/-), K-+/-, baryon and antibaryon production in Pb+Pb collisions at 158 A GeV, J PHYS G-NU, 25(2), 1999, pp. 217-224
We present new results of the CERN experiment NA52 on the centrality depend
ence of pi(+/-), K+/-, p, d, (p) over bar and (d) over bar production yield
s near zero transverse momentum and at several rapidities, from 64% to 4% o
f the total Pb + Pb cross section. Baryon yields increase nearly linearly a
nd K+/- yields faster than linearly with the number of participating nucleo
ns N-p. The antibaryon yields increase less than linearly with N-p, indicat
ing absorption. The centrality and rapidity dependence of the pi(-)/pi(+) r
atio indicates Coulomb interaction of the pions with the projectile spectat
or protons. Within the framework of a coalescence model the radius of the p
article source has been estimated from the ratios d/p(2) and (d) over bar/(
p) over bar(2). The source radii are similar for matter and antimatter and
are found to increase with similar to N-p(0.30-0.36).
