Abstract
Males of Toxotrypana curvicauda were dissected to determine whether th ey possess sex pheromone-producing glands like males of other Tephriti d species. Abdominal portions of the salivary glands and other pheromo ne-producing tissues in males of different ages were studied by scanni ng electron microscopy and histology. Sexually-dimorphic salivary glan ds were found in males, containing cellular columns without lumen and corresponding to a type II (Nation 1974). Enlarged epidermic cells wer e found in the pleural region of the abdominal segments 3, 4, and 5, s imilar to the pleural glands in other Tephritid species. Unlike other Tephritids, T. curvicauda does not appear to possess anal glands and r ectal diverticula.
