The SiO2 powders with high specific surface area were synthesized by the pr
ecipitation method. The effects of calcined temperature on the structure of
the SiO2 powders were characterized by infrared spectrum. X-ray diffractio
n, scan electron microscopy. It is shown that the SiO2 powders with high sp
ecific surface area were stable at high temperatures. When heated at differ
ent temperatures below 650 degrees C, the specific surface area of the SiO2
powders hardly changed, therefore the SiO2 powders have better thermal sta
bility. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science S.A. All rights reserved.
