Abstract
The deformation process of individual multiwalled carbon nanotubes was dire ctly observed by time-resolved high-resolution transmission electron micros copy using a piezo-driving specimen holder at a spatial resolution of 0.2 n m and a time resolution of 1/60 s. High elasticity and the subsequent atomi stic damage process of the nanotubes were demonstrated. [S0163-1829(99)1350 3-3].
