We compute the zero-temperature phase diagram and Hall response of doped pe
rovskite manganites within the model of double exchange and Jahn-Teller cou
pling, employing the d-->infinity approximation proposed by Millis, Mueller
, and Shraiman [Phys. Rev. B 54, 5389 (1996); 54, 5405 (1996)]. We find tha
t in this scenario a "holelike" RH for the hole-doped manganites, as observ
ed at low temperature by Matl et al. [Phys. Rev. B 57, 10248 (1998)], can b
e obtained only when lattice distortions persist in the metallic state as T
-->0. The calculated temperature dependence of RH seems to be consistent wi
th the measured ''normal'' Hall coefficient in thin films. [S0163-1829(99)1
