It was shown that iron interacts with the molten eutectic mixture of sodium
and potassium chlorides, containing nickel ions, in two stages. The first
stage consist in the reduction of nickel and its alloying with iron. Becaus
e of the high reduction rate, nickel's activity, upon the completion of the
stage, is different at different points of the substrate. At the second st
age, the activities of nickel and iron are levelled by the transfer of thei
r ions through the melt.
