Gas chromatograph/mass spectrometric analyses typically require several ten
s of minutes to run. In a laboratory requiring high sample throughput there
is an obvious benefit to being able to significantly reduce run times. Sho
rter run times can be realised using one or more of a number of techniques,
depending on the analytical objectives. Whether the shortened run has very
narrow peaks with good separation or wider peaks with compromised separati
on, the ability to produce mass spectra at a high rate offers advantages. C
