Development and industrialization, military conflicts and various sports ha
ve dramatically increased the number of spinal cord injury patients. The sk
ills of caring for these victims have also improved significantly. A common
problem encountered by these patients, and their care providers, remains w

injury patients are frequent, difficult to evaluate, treat and prevent. At
this stage, no antimicrobial prophylaxis is advocated routinely. The best a
vailable preventative measure remains simple hygienic techniques, intermitt
ent catheterization and close monitoring. This review will summarize the pa
thogenesis, epidemiology, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of urinary tr
act infections in spinal cold injury patients.
