Abstract
8-Benzylaminophylline (1) with ethyl-2,3-dibromopropanoate in the pres ence of triethylbenzylammonium chloride (TEBA) and anh. potassium carb onate in acetone gave -dimethyl-9-benzyl-pyrimido[2,1-f]purine-2,4,8(1 H, 3H, 9H) trione (3) and the ethyl ester of 1,3-dimethyl-8-benzyl-6,7 -dihydroimidazo acid (4). Bromination of the lactam 3 gave appropriate 7-bromoderivative 5. From the ester 4 the acid 7 was obtained. Acid-c atalyzed debenzylation converted the lactam 3 and acid 7 to the corres ponding N-unsubstituted derivatives 6 and 8.
